Technique:
1) Stamp dragonfly onto watercolor paper using versamark ink,
emboss with iridescent peacock embossing powder.
2) Spray color wash blue topaz and emerald and ultra color wash
obsidian into separate wells of a paint pallet. Using a paint
brush or waterbrush wet the inside of the top two wings of the
dragonfly. Paint blue topaz along the top and emerald along the
bottom of each wing letting them blend in the middle. Repeat
with lower wings. Paint the body and antennas with obsidian.
3) Cut a piece of white cardstock to use as a mask over the dragonfly.
Cut a piece of plastic canvas larger than your dragonfly piece.
Place mask over dragonfly (if you hold it up to a light you can
center it under the mask) and canvas over mask. Spray around
edge using color wash jewels - citron, ruby, tanzanite, blue
topaz, emerald. Remove canvas and mask, let dry.
4) Punch many dragonflies from white cardstock. Scatter these
over a 12" x 16" piece of watercolor paper. Holding
the bottle of color wash straight over the paper so you are spraying
down, spray randomly with all five of the color wash jewels colors.
Don't worry about drips, it just adds to the piece. Let dry and
the dragonfly pieces will fall off (save these for another project).
5) Take a piece of white cardstock ¼" larger on all
sides than the stamped dragonfly piece. Using the versamark ink
pad press it along all edges so it's at least 3/8" wide
and emboss with iridescent peacock ep. Layer the stamped dragonfly
piece on this using double stick tape.
6) Add white eyelets to each corner. Lay this piece onto your
sprayed watercolor piece and determine what area you like and
cut accordingly also cutting strips for top and bottom of center
piece. Take a piece of pink cardstock and cut to size. Cut the
fibery paper an inch larger on all sides than pink piece. Spray
pink cardstock with adhesive and stick fibery paper to it. Wrap
extra to back and attach with double stick tape.
7) Cut another piece of pink cardstock ¼" smaller
than the first piece. Spray with adhesive and stick to back of
first piece. Wrap floss around top and bottom strip sticking
ends down with tape.
8) Adhere dragonfly piece to center background piece using double
stick tape and adhere this to base using double stick tape. Adhere
strips above and below using foam mounting tape.
